Keeping fit is a walk in the park

By Ben, 12 October, 2009

Our Heart Foundation walking group has recently been confirmed as the 100th group in Victoria.

The Gaiters (from gait; manner of walking) has started strongly with a core group of roughly 10 participants and even a couple of furry friends.

We recently had a story published about our group in our local paper the Waverley Leader. Click on the link below to read the story.

If you'd like to join us for a walk, we meet every Tuesday at 8.30am at the Forever Strong studio in Andrew Street, for a one hour walk at Federal Reserve.

And we cater for all fitness levels!

2nd annual Forever Strong Fun Run

By Meeghan, 5 October, 2009

Some people say the words fun and run should never be used in the same sentence but I beg to disagree. The key to achieving a FUN run hinges on the planning you do prior to the event and the way you prepare yourself physically and mentally.

The Forever Strong Fun Run is set for Sunday November 15th at the Tan, so you have six weeks to ready, set, go! The Tan which encircles the Royal Botanic Gardens and Kings Domain, originally served as a horse track for Melbourne's well to do but today it is one of Melbourne's most frequented locations for walkers and joggers.

The first step in your planning is to decide which event you would like to participate in and there's plenty to choose from; a 3.83km walk, a 3.83km run and a 7.66km run.

If you're keen to join in let your trainer know so we can assist you in setting some achievable but challenging goals and support you in your quest.

Planning ideas might also include purchasing a decent pair of joggers and recruiting a mate to join you on the Fun Run, someone you can train with on a weekly basis.

Everyone is welcome and there will be more details to follow but for now jot this date in your diary.

The Heart Foundation tick of approval has been given to Forever Strong Fitness to run a free Heart Foundation walking group.

"Forever Strong Gaiters", as I'm affectionately calling the walk and talk group will be the first of its kind in Mount Waverley and surrounding suburbs.

A free information session will be held at Forever Strong Fitness on Tuesday October 6th at 8.30am. RSVP by calling Meeghan on 0431 199 871.

Heart Foundation walking is fun and free and it's the easy way to become more active.

New website up and running

By Meeghan, 11 August, 2009

If you thought running a personal training business was only about personal training you'd be sadly mistaken. Like any new business owner I wear many hats but one I'm not comfortable with is that of IT (information technology) specialist. So when I decided my website needed updating to more accurately reflect my business and serve as a fitness library I called in the big guns. Melissa Cater and Ben Bailey have guided me through this process and I have discovered this technology thing is not all bad - in fact I have really enjoyed it!

The Forever Strong website is designed to be a one stop health and fitness resource. There's still a little tweaking to be done but there's articles for you to read, recipes for you to try and plenty of information about upcoming events. Drop in regularly to see what's happening and have a look around the website - I'd be happy to hear your feedback.

Finally, a big thank you to Melissa and Ben, Troy Slater, photographer extraordinaire and Nick Kos, the original master of all trades, for your unwavering patience, professionalism and expertise.

Nutrition and Fat Loss presentation

By Meeghan, 2 July, 2009

Eighteen participants 'hungry' for more information on nutrition and fat loss gathered at Forever Strong one Wednesday night in July. Rob Haala our guest speaker, talked about what dietitians do and then expanded on this to cover his top 10 weight loss tips. It was a very enjoyable talk and there were plenty of questions at the end of his presentation.

The feedback from this night was all positive, and for some people it reinforced the idea that sustainable fat loss should be considered in the context of 'more of a marathon than a sprint'. In fact Rob's first tip was to have a 'long term focus' and to aim for fat loss of a 1/4kg to a 1/2kg per week. The 1/4kg a week being the more realistic target. The question to ask is how realistic are your fat loss goals?

Vic lands safely back at Forever Strong

Victor Phan

Welcome to our newest addition at Forever Strong Fitness, the super, buff Victor Phan. Vic is a Certificate III and IV-accredited fitness trainer and he is also enlisted in the Army Reserves as a Combat Medical Attendant. Vic has been at Forever Strong since February and in addition to his growing number of individual clients Vic is also taking Thursday’s 6.30am boxing class. Read more about Vic.

Vic, pictured right, was recently in Vietnam for his brother's wedding (this photo was taken while away - so yes, to all you non-believers you really can exercise while on holiday!) and spent two weeks in this amazing part of the world. Ask Vic about his travels and send us a postcard from your holiday destination or a photo of you exercising somewhere exotic.

Feb Fast Challenge

By Meeghan, 7 February, 2009

Do something good for yourself and others and sacrifice alcohol in February.

The Feb Fast fundraising challenge (http://www.febfast.com.au) aims to help young people with alcohol-related problems. It’s a great idea – friends and family can come to your own fundraising page to sponsor your quest to stay ‘dry’ for a month.

If this isn’t your cup of tea (pardon the pun) then perhaps you can make up your own Feb Fast and sacrifice pizza, coke, chips, cigarettes, coffee or chocolate. Choose one vice and have a real go at stopping for 28 days. The folks at Feb Fast are generous – they chose the shortest month of the year!

I’m joining the challenge and I’ll be alcohol free for a month, so who’s with me?
