Go the extra mile
By Meeghan, 28 February, 2013
Hey, what are you doing on Saturday May 11th? I’m going the extra mile and participating in a 50km walk and fundraising endurance event and I’d love you to be on my team.
The walk which starts at Jells Park, includes the beautiful Dandenong Creek Trail, the 1000 steps and finishes at Ferny Creek Reserve is in approximately 70 days - so there’s still plenty of time to train! Go the Extra Mile, while better known for its support of overseas work, has chosen to partner with a local charity, Focus on the Family Australia for the upcoming Melbourne walk and do some good right here at home for what is a staggering national tragedy - Teenage Suicide.
The World Health Organisation has ranked Australia as high as 3rd in the world for youth suicide (amongst males) which is simply astounding given our nation’s first-world status. You and I can do something to turn the tide. The fundraising target for adult walkers is a minimum $200 and is tax deductible. And the bigger picture is to raise a combined $200,000 to assist Focus as they work within our schools, community and sporting groups all over our nation to bring hope to young people and their families.
