Shae Mattila and Steve Binnie have been clients of Forever Strong Fitness since August 2010. When they first came to see us they were stuck in a sedentary corporate lifestyle, working long hours and lacking vitality and energy for life. Wanting a complete change of lifestyle they began training with us as a couple three times a week; 5.30am on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s and Saturday mornings. They began running for the first time and completed the 14km Run for the Kids earlier this year. Since then they have competed in more fun runs and running has now become a part of everyday life. A pleasure to train and always willing to go the extra mile, we congratulate Shae and Steve, Forever Strong’s clients of the month who are now in the running to win the 2011 Forever Strong client of the year main draw prize of $300 worth of acupuncture and massage from Mountaintop Chinese Medicine, or the consolation prize of movie tickets to enjoy during the Christmas season.
You do personal training at 5.30am twice a week… most people would be horrified to think of getting out of bed so early…
We both start work early and we like to have our evenings to unwind…knowing we have done the hard work earlier in the day allows us to relax. It is also a great way to start the day, it definitely wakes you up!
Why is health of importance in your life and does training together strengthen your relationship?
Our motto is ‘Tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today’. We want to be able to enjoy life to its fullest as we grow old gracefully! Training together definitely strengthens our relationship. We don’t get too competitive (Steve would say that’s because he is much faster and it is no competition!) we just have fun whilst training and spending time together.
What results have you achieved from personal training and twice weekly strength and fitness sessions?
We have been able to compete in several fun runs ranging from 10 to 14kms. We both feel stronger and confident in our abilities.
Do you do any other exercise outside of the time you spend at the studio?
We run every other morning during the week (at 5am!), regularly walk our dog and Steve has just started touch footy on Monday nights.
What have you learned about yourself since getting in shape physically?
We have learned that you can do anything you put your mind to. Often the only reason you can’t do something is because you doubt yourself. We’ve also learnt that fun runs are actually fun!
Do you eat well too? Any vices you’d like to share with us?
We eat extremely well, always have. Only difference now is that we don’t feel guilty about the occassional dessert or treat. Red wine is our only vice….
